Understanding the platform's structure

Technically, each page of the Open Music Academy is a document. All public documents can be found via a search entry in the search field. Semantically, public documents are categorized as follows:

Content documents

Single documents on a term or topic, such as wiki articles or tutorials.

Collections

Compilation of several documents that belong to the same topic.

Portals

Entrance pages for broader topics that make the work of expert groups or larger systematically related content visible.

Tags

Each document and file is associated with a list of keywords (tags). These keywords are referenced in the search.

The media center

In OMA's media center you can find any file that has been uploaded to the public realm of OMA: audios, videos, images, and more. You can find all media through the search.

The majority of the media is either published under a Creative Commons license or already in the public domain. If you want to use files outside of OMA, you should understand the respective license.

Searching for content & media

Through the search field, you can find documents (pages on OMA) and files in the OMA media center. The results list will show you documents by default, but you can switch to files using the filter.

The search is always conducted within the keywords, not in the full text.

Each document and file is associated with a list of keywords (tags). This structure makes it possible to find specific content, even when dealing with large amounts of data.

With a single search term, you can find all documents that contain the searched keyword in their list of tags.
Multiple search terms are connected by an AND operator. This means that only documents containing all the entered keywords will appear in the search results.

Use the minus operator to exclude keywords from the search:

Join the OMA community!

The Open Music Academy will only be a success if as many musicians as possible get inspired by the idea of free learning and an open learning platform. OMA is currently a project of the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich, run by a team that has been working full-time on building the platform from 2021 until the end of 2025. But our ultimate goal is for OMA to become a community project that is supported by as many people around the world as possible (similar to Wikipedia). Therefore:
