Die Verse-Chorus-Form (ABABABB...)

Kennen gelernt hast du bisher den Verse-Formteil sowie den Bridge-Formteil. Du erinnerst dich: Der Verse ist Hauptbestandteil eines Songs, der etwas verhaltener komponiert wird und in dem der Text in der Regel wechselt. Die Bridge bildet einen kontrastierenden Formteil zum Verse. Wenn ein Song einen Chorus hat, ist dieser Formteil meist sehr auffällig komponiert, so dass er beim Hören im Gedächtnis hängenbleibt. Typisch für einen Chorus ist die Steigerung gegenüber dem Verse. Oft bilden dabei Chor- oder Streicherstimmen den Hintergrund im Chorus (das sogenannte Backing) und häufig (jedoch nicht immer) kann man einen Chorus auch an einem sich wiederholenden Text erkennen. Mit Buchstaben (A = Verse, B = Chorus) lässt sich die Verse-Chorus-Form wie folgt skizzieren:

Dabei gibt es einen erheblichen Spielraum, wie oft Verse- und Chorusabschnitte in einem Song wechseln können. Sieht man von einer speziellen Gestaltung des Anfangs, des Schlusses sowie kurzer Zwischenteile ab, lässt sich die Formenvielfalt im Rahmen der Verse-Chorus-Form bereits anhand der folgenden Beispiele erkennen:
- ABABABB – »Be My Baby« – The Ronettes (1963),
- BAABAB – »She Loves You« – The Beatles (1963),
- AABAAB – »California Girls« – The Beach Boys (1965),
- AABAABAB - »Major Tom (völlig losgelöst)« – P. Schilling (1982),
- AABAABB - »Circle Of Life« – Elton John (1993) und
- AABAABAABBBBBBBBA – »The Boxer« von Simon & Garfunkel (1969).
