There are currently two key education policy framework documents on the subject of AI and teaching: the [recommendations for action by the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (KMK, 2024)] (https://www.kmk.org/fileadmin/veroeffentlichungen_beschluesse/2024/2024_10_10-Handlungsempfehlung-KI.pdf) and the extensive EU AI Act (2024). The KMK guidelines are summarised below.
KMK guidelines on AI and teaching
The KMK's recommendations for action (2024) cover five areas: (1) the influence and impact of AI on learning and teaching, (2) changes to examination culture brought about by AI, (3) professionalisation of teachers, (4) regulation, and (5) issues of access to generative AI applications in the context of equal opportunities.
