About the Founder

Hi, I'm Matthias Gleich, a jazz trumpet and music teaching student from Munich. I had the good fortune and great pleasure of teaching at "Musicians for a Better Life e.V." workshops in Tanzania for six weeks in March and April 2024.

I taught trumpet and music theory at Bagamoyo College and had the opportunity to work with young people and adults in Mbalizi on their trumpet playing, which gave me great pleasure!

I came home overjoyed, as the work had given me great pleasure. At the same time, I have been thinking about how to create opportunities to gain new input for trumpet playing outside of workshop hours.

That's how the idea for a trumpet learning website was born, which I have developed for all of you as part of my thesis as a collection on the "Open Music Academy".

If you have questions or ideas for the collection: Feel free to contact me anytime via email: Matthias.gleich@web.de

I hope that I can make a small contribution to enabling as many people as possible to enjoy playing the trumpet!

With warmest regards,

Matthias Gleich

About the Collection

The collection is designed so that young people and adults who are beginners or slightly advanced can work with it on their own. It should be understood as a tool for practicing, building skills and knowledge. It is nevertheless recommended to take instrumental lessons as part of Mufo workshops or others.

Additionally, the collection is intended as a reference work and, through the videos, as a “teacher substitute,” allowing for a deeper understanding of basic topics. This is supplemented by links to what I consider to be very good, freely accessible instructional videos by other trumpet players. If something isn't available anymore, please contact me via Mail.

How to Practice with it

The collection is designed for participation and interaction.

The individual chapters always includes a theoretical part and appropriate exercises on the topics.

It is suggested to start with the first two chapters, afterwards feel free to take a look at every chapter once a time. You don't need to „finish“ a chapter before you start a new one.

Therefore, when practicing, you should not work through topic by topic, but rather practice each topic as regularly as possible. It is sufficient to spend at least 5-15 minutes a day on each topic. This is the most likely way to achieve the greatest possible learning success.

Designed to be Expanded

The collection is part of the Open Music Academy (OMA), which aims to provide open educational resources and is therefore a perfect fit for this trumpet school.

With a solid foundation of exercises, it is intended to serve as a collection of knowledge and exercises that can be expanded and corrected as desired.

Over the next few years, a treasure trove of knowledge, pieces of music from the workshops, exercises from the various teachers, videos of performances, and much more could accumulate.
